Breaking News -- the House Budget released today protects the 45 continuing care beds at Taunton State Hospital, rejecting the Patrick Administrations callous proposal to close the facility. Taunton State Hospital is a vital provider of mental health services for the Southeast Region, which has one of the highest rates of hospital emergency department overcrowding of psychiatric patients in the state. Statewide, more than 40,000 patients a year board in our hospital emergency departments, many for days and weeks at a time awaiting needed beds and services. While we are pleased to see this budget retain the 45 beds at Taunton State, we hope to see more beds added through this process. Stay tuned for further developments.
