Breaking News: A 16-year-old Merced boy was released from custody Tuesday, two days after he was arrested for killing his mother’s boyfriend over the weekend during some type of argument. The Merced County District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday declined to file any criminal charges against the teenager, but said the case remains under investigation. “Based on the witness statements and the evidence we have at this time, it appears the 16-year-old was acting in self defense,” said Rob Carroll, chief deputy district attorney.
