Breaking News! TY DANJUMA FOUNDATION DOLES OUT N8M FOR HEPATITIS, SKILLS TRAINING; The TY Danjuma Foundation yesterday gave out N8 million to four Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in Taraba State for use in the treatment of chronic hepatitis and skills training. The executive director of the foundation, Dr Florence Etta-Akin Aina, who presented cheques to the NGOs in Jalingo, also said that the money would be used to raise awareness on the dangers of drug abuse and skills training. The four organisations that benefited from the grant are Chargro Care Trust, Women Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN), Tswensan MPCS and Women Economic Emancipation Initiative. “The four organisations have scaled through the rigorous process of the foundation’s 2013 grant cycle out of over 100 applicants. They are being supported to continue the good work of improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians,” she said. Etta-AkinAina who disclosed that the foundation had already supported 36 projects worth over N25 million in the state, in collaboration with NGOs and Community Based Organisations, said the projects include 1, 719 free surgeries, 3, 462 eye surgeries, treatments of river blindness cases, rehabilitation of 234 hand pumps and the training of 25 hand pump mechanics across the state. Etta-AkinAina explained that Chargro Care Trust would work towards reducing cases of chronic hepatitis B and C in Takum, while WOWICAN would mount campaign against drug abuse in Wukari. The executive director added that the grant given to Tswensan MPCS would be used to provide vocational training to 20 unskilled youths in Nwuban community in the state.
