Breaking Out of Your Shell Have you spent a large amount of your life trying to please others, by doing what role models said you should? This could be parents, siblings, partners, friends, teachers, camp counselors, religious figures, leaders, etc. If so, you may have unconsciously formed an image of yourself as one who has worth because you are acting like them. They feel good about what you do, and have likely told you so. The relationships in your life may have been built around you being what you thought you were supposed to be, and you have continued to be that way because people like it. And, we all like to be liked. A lot. At some point, as this pattern starts to wear thin (and it will), you wake up and realize that you have put your heart on hold. You don’t really know your authentic heart. Here’s where it can get messy. The following of your heart, as you feel it at this point, means that the ways others have come to know and love you, may be at jeopardy. People may like your shell because that’s all they know, but now Grace has strengthened you enough to peck your way out of it. It may mean coming out of the roles that are not you, and finding who you really are. Each of us will need to do this at some point in our experience. I have witnessed it in every age-decade. You don’t decide when you wake up from a dream. Its just time. You are ripe. Once you start to honor your heart, you may notice a revolution is burning within you. When your heart awakens, if you ignore it, you will gradually rot if you stay in your shell. So, what do you do? (Or what are you doing?) To be continued…
