Breast cancer results in a higher percentage of deaths among African-American women in comparison to other races and ethnicities. Fortunately, if caught early, the chances of survival are greatly increased. This year’s National Minority Health Month theme is Prevention is Power: Taking Action for Health Equity. That’s why Barnabas Health reminds all women, but especially those at high-risk, of the three-step plan to routine breast care. These include monthly breast self-examination, clinical examination, and mammography. The frequency of clinical exams and mammograms vary by age and risk factors. Talk to your physician about which routine examinations are right for you. For a referral to a Barnabas Health physician, visit ow.ly/vVAP3
