Breast stroke is a cousin of butterfly stroke. Its a reverse - TopicsExpress

Breast stroke is a cousin of butterfly stroke. Its a reverse butterfly. In this drill, we combine sculling motions from breast stroke with the dolphin kick or butterfly kick from the butterfly stroke. The differences between the 2 strokes lies in the kicking and the pulling phase. For a butterfly, you draw a heart shape from outside in, and press down to be buoyant. For breast stroke, you draw a heart shape from inside out, and likewise, press downwards to be buoyant. In the kicking phase, the butterfly kick is basically flexion and extension of the knees, keeping the thighs glued at all times. In the breast stroke, the knee flexes first, then slight separation of the thighs occur as you extend the knees and kick outwards. All strokes should aim to glide a distance before the next kick/ pull. For this drill, the cue is kick->pull->kick(plunge further down)->glide.
