Breastmilk Storage/Safety We work really hard to make and collect and our milk so it is essential to store it properly. Freshly expressed milk can be kept at room temperature for 4-6 hours FEM (freshly expressed milk) can be kept in an insulated cooler with ice packs for up to 24 hours FEM can be kept safely in the back of the fridge for 5-8 days Milk can be kept in the back of the freezer for 3-6 months Milk can be kept in a chest freezer for up to 1 year Keep in mind that these are the rules for milk that will be given to healthy, full term babies. *Laurie
