Bremen Public Schools 12-10-14 Lunch Account Charging Policy We do not allow charging of any kind for grades 4-12. K-3 can charge up to one meal, one meal as follows: $2.00 for full pay student, $.40 for a reduced pay student. If a K-3 child goes thru for Breakfast and charges for a meal, this student will still be given a lunch providing they have no other charges. The reason for this is that they have not reached their full lunch meal price rather it be a full pay student at $2.00 or a reduced pay student at $.40. Breakfast is priced at $1.10 full pay and $.30 reduced pay. * A la carte items may not be purchased if a student owes the cafeteria money in grades 4-12. K-3 cannot purchase a la carte items. Charges must be paid in full prior to additional charges for K-3. Breakfast No-Choice Meal--------Graham Crackers and milk Lunch No-choice Meal--------Peanut Butter Sandwich and milk In the case of a peanut butter allergy a cheese sandwich will be given instead. At this time there will be no charge for the No-choice meal. Parent notification We will not allow a student to go hungry. If they come through our serving lines, they will be fed. Please note, however, that if a student is on the no-choice list, our cafeteria staff has no option other than to serve the no-choice meal. This no-choice meal is not regulated by USDA and the cost will be incurred by the district/school. Timely payments should be made to the cafeterias lunch account window on Tuesday-Friday. We encourage you to pay on Monday’s or the 1st day of the school week and give payment to your homeroom teacher. This is on Monday’s only. The lunch account window will be open daily from 7:30 am to 10:30 am, at 10:30 this window will be closed and will re-open at lunch for high school at 12:05. If you are having financial difficulty, then a free/reduced meal application should be completed and returned to the front office. Lunch Balances can be checked on our website thru Harmony. Parents are always welcome to call the school cafeteria between the hours of 7:30-2:30 for a student’s balance 574-546-3554 (2023) or e-mail to check balances at [email protected], sign up for “Alerts at your fingertips” the instruction is on the school website under Harmony. A call and an e-mail will be sent out periodically to those parents of students that are in the negative. K-8 students will also receive daily red paper alert to take home. Program requirements prohibit schools from denying meals for: Disciplinary reasons Free students regardless of any other charges at school Other points The school/food service must advise all households of the policy to ensure that if a student fails to comply with the policy they understand the consequences. This policy and the schools food service establishment, must assure that the policy does not discriminate against or single out any group of students. Taking a tray away from a student after service is devastating not only to the child but to all of the staff that wants to see that child eat a nutritious meal every day. If you know this situation may occur please call the nutrition office listed above so we can make arrangement for payment. Reduced and paid students should not be denied a meal if they have money in hand for a meal that day.
