Brendan Nelson, Director of the Australian War Memorial explained - TopicsExpress

Brendan Nelson, Director of the Australian War Memorial explained succinctly recently why, as a nation, Australia should bother with these up-coming Anzac Centenary tributes in 2015-2018. JS Mill said that the essential elements for a nation to exist was that people would want to be governed as one single nation state ..and that they would have a common fellow feeling. Australia legally became a nation in 1901 but the states still were thinking of themselves as separate and individual. But when our soldiers went away in the same uniform and under the one flag and fought, suffered and died together - and those left behind mourned deeply together - a Nation was TRULY born.
