Brian Morgan! Beaches Be Crazy thanks you for your challenge and will be donating to ALS!! We are so glad the viral videos are raising awareness of ALS. We have a few Beaches that have been personally affected by this disease. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as Lou Gehrigs Disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. WAKA SoCal has its own fundraising site to try to raise over $5000 to help fund ALS research. Beaches will be working to help make that happen. weboc.alsa.org/goto/WAKASoCal Wed also like to call attention to the severe drought California is in and call out all Californians to start thinking about water differently. Small changes can make a difference! Take shorter showers, water in the evening or night, and simply pay attention to water consumption. While the majority of our major water usage is agricultural, its still on us to make small changes. The same way these videos changed the awareness of ALS, one small change by everyone can help conserve more water as a whole and make a big difference.
