Brian Wilson was born June 20, 1942. He of course was the songwriter and often the singer too for the Beach Boys. The thing about the Beach Boys, is a lot of people are just familiar with the sunny surf stuff. Wilson changed in the mid 60s, experimenting with different instruments, music becoming alot more adventourous, and serious. With the Pet Sounds album in 1966, he made an album still often considered one of the 10 greatest ever. It was extroadinarily influential, indeed Paul McCartney said it was The influence on Sgt Pepper. It was basically a sophisticated concept record about fading youth. Some of the other members of the Beach Boys rebelled, they were against it, didnot understand it; much of it was really more of a solo Wilson record. Of course, it did not sell that well; Wilson became obsessed with making the greatest record ever as a followup (the Smile sessions, never really finished), and basically went insane in that effort. He soon became somewhat of a vegetable, his functioning I dont think was ever normal again; The Beach Boys as a whole were far darker than their public image, with the meglamaniac father manager, Dennis Wilsons death in 1970, the association with Charles Manson. youtube/watch?v=EkPy18xW1j8
