Brief thoughts on the state election results. Our strategy has always been two-fold: 1. Stop the rot, 2. roll back the depredations of our rights. To achieve the first we needed to take the state senate OR oust Cuomo. For the second we needed to take the senate, oust Cuomo, and apply a lot of pressure on the assembly. Last night we won. We took back the senate. Now we can stop the rot. Many thanks to the NY2A Grassroots Coalition for that. Early in the election cycle they articulated a clear goal to take the senate, and identified 3 key races necessary to do that (Amadore, Funke, Serino). They did this at a time when the state GOP and even grassroots were giving up on the senate as a lost cause. But NY2A had the vision and they worked toward it tirelessly, and they WON EACH and EVERY key race that they identified. Kudos are due. Cuomo winning the governor race is a big disappointment, but looking back its clearly something that DID NOT NEED TO HAPPEN. Astorino could have won this. I see two key areas of failure: 1. Apathy among gun owners upstate. Seriously. Turnout was low upstate and there is no good excuse for that. (If youre reading this you almost certainly werent apathetic, but please take a moment to reflect on how we can improve for the next elections) 2. The national GOP (particularly NJ Gov Christie), and the state GOP (particularly state senators sitting on 6 or 7 figure campaign accounts) did not step up and support Astorino. With money he could have countered the Cuomo attacks. The money to do that existed but was horded by people who are not friends of liberty. **Going forward, lets keep fighting! Im more optimistic than disappointed. I believe weve shown that principled conservatism can win, even in NY state, and that the grassroots are potent when we target our efforts.** Thanks to all who fought hard for the right people in the election last night. We have good teams across the state more active and alert than in my memory. Thanks to NY2A, New York Revolution, S.C.O.P.E., Rob Astorino, Sheriff Chris Moss, Steve McLaughlin, NCF2A, 2ACWNY and many others. Your efforts are appreciated. Next steps? Lets discuss in the comments.
