Brigades to assist with agricultural burn - 7th January, 2015 NSW Rural Fire Service brigades will be assisting a landholder with an agricultural burn on the evening of Wednesday the 7th of January. This operation will occur at a property on the Candelo Wolumla east of Wyndham Lane and will be visible from many locations around Wolumla, including the Princess Highway. The operation has been carefully planned and will be implemented by appropriately trained and experienced brigade personnel. This operation involves burning paddocks of dry standing lovegrass which has been sprayed with herbicides. Assisting the landholder to burn this area will not only allow for improved land management practices to be initiated, but will also remove a significant amount of dried vegetation from a vulnerable area. Superintendant John Cullen, Team Manager for the Far South Coast Rural Fire Service said that whilst it is not common practice to undertake this type of work over the summer months it was felt that the careful planning and resourcing that has gone into this burn will enable it to be completed safely and provide a positive outcome for all concerned.
