Bright Simons....forgive me, just couldnt help but repost this..... I am amused by some of the diagnoses people are making of the US Embassy tweet saga. Some people are earnestly, even desperately, trying to make it into a patriotism matter. Some are saying Ghanaians arent showing enough zeal to defend the honour of the country and its leader. And that this is a bad symptom of extreme political polarisation. For real? In the current context? Defend honour? Some folks dont still get it, it seems! Hello! Politics in this country is like a swimming contest in Korle Lagoon. Followed by an after - party brunch in Lavender Hill. In case you still dont get it, let me be blunt with you. The reason why most Ghanaians dont see what the fuss is about is because youve desensitised them. You politicians have. You have raised the bar of shock and outrage so high that respect now sounds like some exotic plant in Borneo. You dont keep the mess in your own quarters either. You sponsor riffraffs on social media to go about insulting and defaming people who wont sing your praises. You have employed an army of character assassins in commando gear to tear apart anyone who threatens your sense of comfort. From morning till night all we hear are your gaga followers creating a scene on radio. You dont bother with our sensitivities and show us zero respect. And you have the presence of mind to ask Ghanaians to be outraged by some tweet that only a few hundred people would have seen had this hullabaloo not arisen? For real? Restore our dignity first, so that when an outsider affront us we will have the sensitivity to notice. By Bright Simons
