Bringing in the New Year by celebrating the great music I heard last year. I am counting down my 25 favorite albums of 2014. Share your favorite albums in the comments below. Now Im down to the top 5, and I will say that there hasnt been a clear favorite album for me all year. Of the top 6 albums on this list, the number 1 spot would go to whichever one I happen to be listening to at that time. But, as it stands today, this is the order I will present them to you. Here is No. 2: Beck; Morning Phase. Morning Phase is the sister album to Becks 2002 masterpiece Sea Change. I still wouldnt say that this album is necessarily better than that one, but after listening to it all year, I would say that it is just as rich, beautiful, haunting, and deep as Sea Change. What is the worthy companion of a masterpiece? With Becks father once again bringing his brilliant orchestral arrangements to each song, Beck allows that to add transcendence to his songs that dig deeply into the heart of country, folk, and pop/rock from the 20th century. This album grows more complex and striking with every listen (and I have probably listened to this album more than any other this past year). I was listening to it again, earlier today, and thought to myself, this album really is the most emotional, beautiful, marvelous album Ive listened to this year. So why isnt it my No. 1? https://youtube/watch?v=vJXXhgmoXzw
