Britain First Not Welcomed in Rochester! The far right splinter - TopicsExpress

Britain First Not Welcomed in Rochester! The far right splinter group from the BNP, Britain First (BF), had to leave Rochester, in Kent, last Saturday, after local anti fascists humiliated them. The tiny group of Fascists had promised a Day of Action, to bolster their candidate, in the forthcoming Rochester and Strood By- Election. 24 hours before this, Royal Mail refused to deliver BFs leaflet as it believes the leaflet may be illegal. Royal Mail said it could refuse to carry election mail if it considered the contents threatening or abusive. The leaflet features a woman wearing a veil with the word warning and refers to a campaign against a planned mosque. It is openly Islamophobic. Postal Workers were among the anti fascist demonstration, on Saturday. Thus when the small number of BF thugs turned up at Rochester station, on Saturday lunchtime, they had no racist leaflets to distribute. Medway anti fascists had asked for people to protest against BF in Rochester, and the call was well supported. Around 150 locals, young, old, black and white, LGBT, members of the Muslim community, Greens, Labour and Socialists, blocked the fascists attempt to march into town, for well over an hour. BF were clearly surprised and muted by the response and strength of feeling shown by people who rejected their bigotry. Cries of Wheres your leaflets gone?, brought smiles to anti fascists faces and grimaces from BF thugs, who were dressed in semi paramilitary uniform. BFs infamous armoured car brought no respite for them. Reservists and ex Soldiers, angered by BFs attempt to use Help for Heroes in their publicity, joined anti fascists and BF felt their anger! Eventually BF were able to walk around 100 yards, faced on all sides by people chanting, Nobody wants you here. Their thugs attacked a young couple, en route, captured on camera. Their pretence at respectability had gone now, and openly Islamophobic and in one case, anti Semitic, abuse came from BF ranks. Passers by joined the protest, angered by BF in their town. After some time, BF were forced to effectively abandon their Day of Action, and resorted to a Rally, behind police lines. Locals again swelled protestors numbers. Councillors helped carry the message that BF do not speak for Rochester. Their Candidates speech could barely be heard due to the chanting of anti fascists. BF supporters faces were a picture, you could see their demoralisation. Made up of ex BNP hooligans, BF attracted no support, bar a few racists from Rochester. BF were taken aback by the opposition in the town, and their Day of Action had become farcical. The Leader of Medway Labour Group joined protestors and said he was proud of people standing against BF and that unity in the community, was essential. BF have before, used flash mob tactics to surprise and intimidate Mosque goers at their places of worship. This time, it was different. Its significant that when faced with determined and diverse anti fascists, BF Fuhrer Golding showed his true feelings, at one point, screaming that BF were only standing for publicity, and wished UKIP success, in the election. BF were humbled, they looked increasingly glum, and asked the police to escort them back to the Train station. Anti fascists cheered and held a short rally; of our own. It was excellent to see the Little Hitlers rejected by Rochester! UAF members were proud to be there. Local media carried the message that Fascists would always be opposed in the town. Rochester truly routed the bigots!
