Britains Hypocrisy British ruled Hong Kong From 1841 to 1997. Britain had hundreds of years of democratic history, electing their leader and parliament. The system was never handed down to their HK colony. Throughout the years, the HK governor and legco was always by appointment by the British govt continents apart. There was no vote, not consultation, and a good chance the person appointed to leadership has not even lived in HK. For legco, the first elections only took place 1985, when the sovereignty was planned to be pass down to China which was agreed in 1984. The International Bill of Human Rights was adopted by UN in 1948 which the British ignored. So the point was, the Rights stipulated was only good for Britain and not our colony. For a country to rule a city for over 150 years, neglect to implement their belief in democracy, and now come out now to comment about democracy in HK is simply irresponsible. So for those youths who are claiming they wish the Brits are here, please do a little research of history before you make your view.It is interesting to ponder if Hong Kong was still a colony now, would we be where we are today?
