British Blues singer and harmonica player Cyril Davies died on this day in 1964 at age 32. Davies was a founding member of Blues Incorporated with Alexis Korner and formed Cyril Davies R&B All-Stars with guitaist Bernie Watson and pianist Nicky Hopkins in 1963 and for a time it looked like they would give The Rolling Stones a run for the money on the burgeoning British Blues-Rock scene. Davies collapsed in late 1963 and was diagnosed with lukemia. He died months later. Cyril Davies R&B All-Stars recorded several singles but never an album. They can be heard on various compilation CDs. Fans of British Blues will like Blues From The Marquee which features Davies with fellow Blues Inc. alumni Alexis Korner.
