British Humanist Association Democracy is essential to running societies well. Democracy isnt simply about voting - its investing power and authority in wider society and not just the few. In a fully functioning and healthy democracy, we all have a say in the country is run, whatever our background, whatever our beliefs. Participation in democracy should not end with the ballot box. Instead, we should engage in our democracy all year round by speaking up about the causes which matter to us, and by spreading awareness of the issues to our friends and families. Your democratic duty begins way before 7 May. It starts now. For #DemocracyDay, lets commit to working together to put our issues more firmly on the agenda, and for building a better society.
