British Jesuits launch multi-lingual online resource to accompany anniversary calendar Calendar As the Society of Jesus commemorates the 200th anniversary of its restoration by Pope Pius VII in 1814, the Jesuits in Britain have launched an online resource to accompany their 2014 calendar. The calendar features illustrations of 12 Jesuits from across the world and was produced to acknowledge and celebrate the work that has been done by so many over the past 200 years. The new online resource includes specially-commissioned essays which explore in more detail the lives and ministries of each of the 12 Jesuits featured in French, Spanish and Chinese, as well as English. These are in addition to the brief descriptions of their lives and ministries, the audio reflections and the illustrations by Ellen Reilly/Cédric Charleuf. The French philosopher, palaeontologist and geologist, Fr Pierre Teilard de Chardin SJ is the focus for the Society of Jesus this January, as he features in the commemorative calendar produced by the Jesuits in Britain. In the online version of the calendar, British Jesuit Fr Christopher Corbally SJ of the Vatican Observatory explains how the French scientist had an influence upon his own vocation as a Jesuit priest and scientist.
