British Troops Ensure Security, Prepare for Retrograde and Redeployment ISAF Regional Command Southwest will withdraw all troops and transition full security responsibility to the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) in Helmand province by the end of 2014. We continue to provide functional-based advising as we work toward a responsible transition. The ANSF are capable, credible and have the confidence and support of the Afghan population. They have been in the lead for security for more than a year now, and have proven themselves during the past two years fighting seasons and both rounds of the Afghan presidential election. The ANSF have conducted complex planning across all security pillars of the government and, in response to the recent abortive attempt by insurgents to destabilize Northern Helmand, a national response brought assistance by providing reinforcements from out of the region. As Regional Command Southwest ends its mission and ISAF transitions to Resolute Support in 2015, we will link ANSF in Helmand to an advisor team in Kabul that will continue to support institutional development and sustainment.
