British game shooting is now getting stupidly expensive and beyond - TopicsExpress

British game shooting is now getting stupidly expensive and beyond the means of most normal people. Shooting must be inclusive if it is to survive. The gap, sadly, seems to be widening, though. I have always been able to straddle it personally speaking, at least, till now. My shooting future will involve more stalking, more pigeons and more walking-up. Driven game shooting must not become the preserve - no pun intended - of the rich alone. We must find ways to make it more affordable. I might add that 50-100 bird shoots used to be the norm. Now people seem to want 200 birds plus to say they have had a good time. It has become a commodity, those with more money than sense seem, sometimes, to enjoy paying too much. One thing which particularly irks me is over-tipping. Keepers must have their tips - its a major part of their livelihood - but over-tipping is as bad as under-tipping. Its unsportsmanlike (as is shooting at poultry that presents no challenge in vast number).
