[Bukhaari and Muslim] In recent weeks I and im sure all of have seen many people creating avatars using the application to imitate themselves and others with funny quotes or actions to accompany it. I have been contemplating whether I should put up this status or not as my intention is not to offend anyone or to judge them in anyway. A few days ago there was a status put up stating as a person and a Muslim it is important you ask questions and hold people to account for what they do wrong. If you see something that is detrimental to people, it is a duty that you speak up or let people know about it, no matter who you upset. I feel our brothers and sisters have forgotten that creating images of yourself is haram and is a great sin. There is no disagreement on this issue. Every image-maker will be in the fire of Hell. A soul will be made for him for every image which he has made and it will punish him in the Hell-fire. [Muslim] The above hadith clearly explains that the images we make will be given life to punish us for what we do. And this because Allaah the Glorious and Exalted said, “Who is more a wrongdoer than one who tries to create creation like My creation. Let him create a small ant or a grain of wheat.” [Muslim] Although this maybe seen as something small we must however not forget that the evidence for this is very strong. I too had one made by me and have advised the person who has not done so afterwards. Brothers and sisters in Islam remember the Shaytan means to make distant, it maybe that we do something that we are lead astray. After all the Iblees has made us this promise in the Quran in Surah 7 verse 14 to 17 (Iblis) said: Allow me respite till the Day they are raised up (i.e. the Day of Resurrection). (Allah) said: You are of those allowed respite. (Iblis) said: Because You have sent me astray, surely I will sit in wait against them (human beings) on Your Straight Path. Then I will come to them from before them and behind them, from their right and from their left, and You will not find most of them as thankful ones (i.e. they will not be dutiful to You). This is not aimed at anyone in particular and it is message to me first before others. I merely feel that it something that needed to be shared. We all know this following hadith: On the authority of Abu Sa’eed al-Khudree (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say, “Whosoever of you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; and if he is not able to do so, then [let him change it] with his tongue; and if he is not able to do so, then with his heart — and that is the weakest of faith.” [Muslim] I advise all to stop using this application and delete anything you have made before seeking forgiveness and your lord is most gracious.
