Broadcast: “The Dangers of Pietism” -- False teachings and implications from Galatians 2:20 in recent church history. This broadcast continues our verse by verse study of Galatians. In this broadcast we show further what it meant to be crucified with Christ: death to the Law. The “I” who no longer lives was Paul as committed to law keeping to earn favor with God. We show how serious miss-interpretation of this verse (Galatians 2:20) has led to pietism and false, perfectionist claims such as “total surrender.” Passages such as this have been twisted to support pietistic claims such as those of Watchman Nee and Oswald Chambers. Bob discusses his past experiences with these teachings that promoted an anatomical sanctification scheme that is unbiblical and harmful. He points out that evangelicalism has been influenced by mysticism through Hannah Whitehall Smith to Richard Foster, from the 19th century to the 21st century. Both are Quakers and mystics. We show how pietistic teachings, grounded in mystical, perfectionist falsehoods have damaged and divided the body of Christ. We point to true unity through faith in God through the gospel. cicministry.org/audio/radio/20130902_cic_radio-The_Dangers_of_Pietism_False_teachings_and_implications_from_recent_church_history-Galatians_2v20.mp3
