Broncos legend visits Kerema The National, Thursday August 7th, 2014 BRISBANE Broncos legend and former Kangaroos and Queensland Origin five-eighth and captain Daren Lockyer graced sleepy Kerema town with a presentation of rugby league balls to the Kerema Rugby League Club (KRLC) on Tuesday. The balls were given to the club as a donation for the provincial team that will be taking part in the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) Southern Zone trials in the Sogeri plateau from August 11-16. Lockyer said while his company was in the province seeking investment opportunities, the presentation of the balls signified his contribution as an investor to the sports-loving people of Gulf and Papua New Guinea. Lockyer, a man of few words, captured the Kerema public’s attention with many town reisdents and locals taking pictures throughout his short stay. “I know there are a lot of Maroons supporters out here and I am grateful to be among you all. We are committed to the people of Gulf and we will continue to support you,” Lockyer said. At the event were Gulf Isapea chairman Jacob Ivaroa, four Fijian exports to Gulf Isapea, Gulf Governor Havila Kavo, Kerema Town mayor Jack Narri, Ihu LLG president Charles Maiu, provincial administrator Marc Avai and other senior public servants. KRLC resident Emmanuel Morehari thanked the former Kangaroo captain for his assistance and said this was the first time for the small town to receive a bona fide rugby league legend.
