Bronski’s Post Jimmy Hit When Jimmy Somerville left Bronski Beat it seemed that they would disappear quickly. Well, they pretty much did, but not before they released one great single that interestingly was as big a hit as any of their previous releases. “Hit That Perfect Beat” was released in 1985 and featured new singer Jon Foster. The song was used in the movie “Letter To Brezhnev” and the video features some clips from the movie. There are also quite a few mixes of it… In the UK there were 3 different 12”s released. The 1st featured the 6:25 Extended Version. The 2nd contained the “Instant Mix” and the “Instant Dub” both of which were remixed by Ian Levine. The 3rd 12” is the oddest as it features a version of the song produced by Mike Thorne (who did a lot of Soft Cell’s stuff). It sounds pretty different and not as good as the ones done by Adam Williams that are on all the other formats. I’m guessing the band recorded with Mike Thorne first as he had done all their previous singles. Perhaps the band also didn’t like the version much and chose to re-record it with the new producer. All 3 of the UK 12”’s & the 7” contain the non LP track “I Gave You Everything” (added as a bonus track to CD pressings of the “Truthdare Doubledare” album). The US 12” features the 3 mixes form the 1st 2 UK 12”s. Most of the mixes have crept out on the odd CD, the “Instant Dub” being the exception.
