Brothers In Fire 11 American firefighters arrived in Israel this week to volunteer at various fire stations in the South during operation Protective Edge while Israel is under Gaza rockets attacks. The firefighters, from various US states, are part of the Emergency Volunteer Project (EVP), which recruits and trains firefighters who wish to volunteer in Israel during times of emergency. After a short training session at the National Fire and Rescue Academy, the volunteers were assigned to various stations in the South, including Ashdod, Ashkelon, Sderot and Netivot. The volunteers are working shifts alongside the Israeli firefighters and responding to calls related to rocket fire. “They are highly motivated and are giving with all their heart,” says Yoni Blitz, an Israeli firefighter accompanying the volunteers. The local firefighters are also very happy to have the volunteers here, and gave them a warm welcome.
