Brothers and Friends, As we approach the 110th Founders’ Day - TopicsExpress

Brothers and Friends, As we approach the 110th Founders’ Day of our Fraternity, I cannot help but to look back at the changes we’ve seen over the last year. As described in the Chapter Advisor’s “State of the Chapter” address (attached), the Alpha Chapter has made great strides in an effort to become a model chapter. Let there be no mistake. Only a matter of months ago, the Alpha Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi was on the verge of charter revocation due to non-compliance. The National Office levied sanctions upon the Chapter, which, if not complied with, would result in closure of the Alpha chapter for the first time in 110 years. They were on the cusp. Today, under the leadership of Chapter Advisor Richard Pierce, Archon Gunnar Burts, and the rest of the Executive Council, I am pleased to report the active chapter recently initiated 15 young men into our brotherhood, and the state of the chapter is improving daily. To date, all sanctions have been met, and as Richard tells me candidly, the “fire” is there. We still have a ways to go, but with the continued improvement within the active chapter and with the support of the Alumni, Pi Kappa Phi’s Alpha Chapter will return to being a chapter of which we are all proud. At the Founders’ Day Reception last year, Brother Carl Johnson made a Call to Action. He challenged the Alumni base to support the chapter by helping renovate the Alpha House, which is still in a state of disrepair. That was the last many of you heard of the efforts, which has given the appearance that Carl and the rest of the Board failed to act. I take full responsibility for delaying this project, as I personally asked Carl to stop progress. Up to that point, Carl had led several discussions about the house, inspections were obtained, quotes from contractors, etc. With the issues the active chapter faced at the time, I asked Carl to delay the renovation efforts until we knew more about the future of the chapter. Frankly, I personally wouldn’t have contributed to the renovation project, so I surely wouldn’t have asked you. Today is another story. Please see the attached invitation to the 110th Founders’ Day reception. Prior to the reception, we will hold the annual meeting of the Charleston Area Pi Kappa Phi Alumni Chapter, in which we will briefly discuss some very positive movement in the House project. I am very excited about the Founders’ Day program this year. Past-National President David Jaffee will be our keynote speaker, and we will have a few additional presentations which you will make you proud to be a Pi Kappa Phi. On behalf of the Board of the Charleston Area Pi Kappa Phi Alumni Chapter, I hope to see you at our Founders’ Day celebration.
