Brothers and Sisters of the Biker Community: The AMA is requesting that bikers write a letter to their respective members of Congress asking them to support legislation - S. 2078 (The Stop Motorcycle Checkpoint Funding Act), introduced by U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Ron Johnson (R-WS), Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), and Joe Manchin (D-WV) - that will eliminate federal funding for “motorcycle-only” checkpoints. The AMA has prepared a pre-written support letter that individuals can send electronically to their members of Congress. I (Doc Ski) have established a link on the NC Confederation of Motorcycle Clubs website - nccomc.org - to make accessing this form easy. Just click on the link, and at the bottom of the page, click on “Stop Motorcycle Checkpoints”. This will take you to a form. Once you fill in this form, a copy of the letter will go directly to your local lawmaker in DC based on your zip code. As you may know, CBA/ABATE of NC was able to secure the passage of state legislation here in North Carolina prohibiting motorcycle-only checkpoints. However, in spite of our success in NC we were still subject to “federally funded” Motorcycle-Only Checkpoints; the first in Georgia on I-95 during Daytona Bike Week, and the other in Virginia during Rolling Thunder (two of the largest motorcycle events in the country). Sending this letter to your members in Congress will help reduce or prohibit such checkpoints elsewhere in the country. The sponsors of this legislation need the support of other members of Congress to make this legislation a reality. Please disseminate this information through the CBA yahoo groups system.
