Brothers, in my view, masonry is NOT simply a group of men getting together for charity, or men who simply meet, eat, drink, and memorize lines or act in a play. Our ancient predecessors didnt just pick our ritual out of a hat so to speak, nor was it just for recreation. The craft is instead a mystery school of thought, where its signs, symbols, ritual, and labor are all for the purpose of guiding the man who yearns for communion with his Maker and the uplifting of his fellow man. To take on this role, WE must challenge ourselves, put our gnosis and beliefs to the test, refine those beliefs, and raise our awareness from a carnal nature to a cosmic nature. The whole of the craft was ingeniously devised from the greatest spiritual sciences that predate recorded time and space. From the builders of King Solomons Temple to the high priests of Egypt, the goal has always been to discover the mysteries of the universe without and within, which masonry surely accomplishes. Speculative masonry acknowledges and incorporates the highest ideals of the perfection of man, and the elevation of man beyond the material plane to the eternal which transcends all description. As the ground floor of the lodge represents the level ground with which we tread in the journey of life on earth, so too does the ceiling represent the eternal heavens where we aspire to evolve to reconnect and harmonize with, transforming us not to just a brick in the building of that eternal temple, but far beyond to being one with Absolute Being, the Grand Architect of The Universe. Thus, our ritual and good works are not just rules and measures, but a system of transformation from the prison of the mundane to the well refined higher vibration of our conscious selves, and even further to transcending all dimension of time, space, and form to deific life where man and his creator are one.
