Brothers please familiarize yourself with our new Social Media - TopicsExpress

Brothers please familiarize yourself with our new Social Media Guidelines. The Grand Lodge of the State of Louisiana has created a set of guidelines for its members concerning Internet posts on portals such as websites, blogs, Facebook and Twitter. Information and images we post online are much more accessible by the general public and we should take certain precautions when interacting on the Internet. Internet Media Guidelines • Conduct online activities in a way that reflects your membership in the Craft. • All posts and conversations should present a positive image of Freemasonry. • Never post items or language that could be considered vile, profane, vulgar, or offensive. • Simply deleting a post does not guarantee that it no longer exists. Therefore, all postings should be considered a permanent record. • Do not identify any Freemason as a member of the Craft unless he has provided his consent, or has already identified himself as such. • As a Mason, you should advise a Brother if you feel that what he has posted is improper. • Never discuss, announce, or post photos of candidates or applicants. • Never discuss ones thoughts or feelings regarding the outcome of a ballot. • Never discuss business of a Lodge online. • Lodge meeting information, other than time and date of the meeting, should not be discussed. • Use caution in posting photographs, taking in consideration the setting, attire and actions of the subject(s); being ever mindful the image is appropriate and portrays the Fraternity in a favorable light. • Please follow established procedures for communicating with Lodge members and do not rely solely upon social media • Formal communications with other Grand Jurisdictions and their constituent Lodges must be conducted through our Grand Secretary. The most important rule: If you are unsure or in doubt about a Masonic message you want to place on the Internet, DO NOT post it. Seek the advice of someone more experienced with posting Masonic information online. Remember that once something is posted, it is out there forever. It is better to err on the side of caution than to have regrets down the road. Social Media Sites The best part of social media sites is that they are quick and easy. The bad part of social media sites is that they are quick and easy. If you decide to create a social media account for your Lodge, remember you are assuming the responsibility for how the Fraternity is portrayed, as a whole, to any person that visits your account. It is important that you adhere to the guidelines laid out in this notice and keep your site well maintained. If for some reason the Social Media account is no longer used, please take the account down. Old and outdated sites give a negative impression to people who happen to find the page. 2
