Brown Booby at Ft Desoto. The Day I left to take my 18 day vacation to New England a BROWN BOOBY shows up in my county. It has been around since July 18th but not always in sight. It hangs out on the tower just north of the Gulf Pier. It is usually seen early evening but could be there any time of day. I saw him today (finally) at 10:30 AM. He was on the north side of the tower which can only be viewed from the beach. Sometimes he is on the east side which means he can only be seen from the Gulf Pier. Neither spots are close (both over 250 yards) which means you need a scope for good views. The lighting was bad when I saw him so even with a 400mm lense and a 1.4 teleconverter the shots are not good. Here are a few poor photos. It got cloudy as soon as I found him. I checked at 7:30 and he was not around. Came back around 10:30 and he was there. On the north side facing south so his head was blocked by the tower support most of the time. I walked way south to try to get his face, but there was another cross beam in front of his face.
