Bruce-Mahoney Football October 25 The Bruce-Mahoney football game takes place this Saturday, October 25 at St. Ignatius College Preparatory. Junior Varsity plays at 11 am and Varsity plays at 2 pm. Tickets are $10 each and are sold only through the SHC Business Office. Monday-Wednesday: Current Students only (1 ticket each, ID required) Thursday-Friday: Open to all (4-ticket maximum) Season passholders, please contact SHCs Office of Advancement to receive your tickets. November PA Meeting November 5 The Parents Association is pleased to announce that Stephen Karr, PhD will join us at our meeting on November 5 as our guest speaker. He will discuss the healthy development of adolescents. Dr. Karr is the founding director of the San Francisco Institute for Adolescence, and he has worked with many SHC families throughout the years. We will begin the evening with light refreshments at 6:45 pm and the meeting will begin promptly at 7 pm in the Student Life Center dining hall. Alumni Basketball Gam November 26 Join us at this years alumni basketball game benefitting the Fightin Irish Boys Basketball Program! Cheer on your student-athlete or former classmates! The games take place on Wednesday, November 26 from 5:30-8:30 pm in the Student Life Center Pavilion. TEDxYouth@SHC November 1 (deadline) SHC is pleased to announce the inaugural TEDxYouth@SHC event taking place on January 17, 2015. This event, created by and for the young people of San Francisco, invites local youth to apply to participate as speakers or attendees. TED, an organization dedicated to spreading good ideas through short, powerful talks, created TEDx to give local communities the opportunity to host TED-inspired events. TEDxYouth@SHC brings together San Francisco youth through an entirely student-run event. The application deadline for both youth speakers and attendees is November 1. Learn more. LVY Clothing Drive & Giveaway November 10 Start cleaning out your closets for the Lasallian Vincentian Youth (LVY) Annual Clothing Drive & Giveaway. We will collect gently-used clothes for two weeks beginning November 10. Clothes may be dropped off in the Student Life Center atrium or the De Paul Campus courtyard. On Saturday, November 22 our neighbors will select clothes to take home. We will also serve a light lunch to our guests. All members of the SHC community are welcome to join us in celebrating our neighbors and the spirit of the season. Kiva Service Learning Project: Call for Student Leaders November 15 (deadline) Applications are now available for juniors interested in serving as Class of 2016 student-leaders for the Kiva Service Learning Project. The five students selected will travel to Guatemala (June 2015, financial aid available) to explore poverty-battling microfinance tools. They will apply what they learn during the Guatemala trip to their leadership of the Kiva Microfinance Club, microfinance teach-in and Kiva Carnival. Kiva leaders are eligible to apply for the prestigious World Food Prize Global Youth Institute and the Borlaug-Ruan travel research internship. Applications are due November 15, 2014.
