Brunei mogul to build RM30m hotel in Labuan Jun 26, 2013 A prominent Brunei-based businessman has invested RM30 million in the federal territory of Labuan for the construction of a world-class hotel and textile complex. According to The Malaysian Insider, it is the island’s biggest investment and is expected to transform the federal territory into a hub for fabric and branded clothes, just like it used to be in the 1980s. The hefty investment bodes well for the island’s development, according to Labuan Corporation (LC) Chairman Datuk Yussof Mahal. Moreover, “LC has given the nod for the investor to start construction after the building plan was submitted and necessary requirements fulfilled,” he said, adding that the five-story hotel and its attached fabric complex, will be built at downtown Jalan Dewan. “The prime land, leased to the hotel, is expected to generate revenue for LC, and at the same time, help create employment opportunities to boost economic activities,” he added. Meanwhile, Labuan officials will implement various strategies to attract more tourists in the island in order to boost tourism revenue.
