Bruno “Aloha Kid” Escalante and local boxers host public workout in San Carlos THIS SATURDAY, July 13! Super flyweight sensation Bruno “The Aloha Kid” Escalante (pictured above) and several up-and-coming local boxers will host a special public workout for fans and media this Saturday, July 13, at the Undisputed Gym on 883 East San Carlos Avenue in San Carlos, Calif., from 12:30-2:00pm. Escalante (8-1-1, 4 KOs), a speedy lefty from San Carlos via Cebu, Philippines, has emerged on the scene with his dynamite displays of punching power despite standing only 5-foot-2, 115 pounds. Bruno, along with two-time San Francisco Golden Gloves middleweight champ Ricardo Pinell (4-0-1, 3 KOs), San Jose’s Andy Vences (2-0, 1 KO), and Redwood City cruiserweight Juan Hernandez (2-1, 2 KOs) will be among the fighters who will be on hand for the workout. Saturday will allow an opportunity for fans of all ages to interact with the fighters and learn a few points about the sweet science from the pros themselves, who will be teaching the basics during the workout and signing autographs afterward. Food and drinks will be provided. “I love to meet the fans and give back to them for supporting me. I can’t wait to show them what we do,” said Escalante, who recently appeared on CSN Bay Area’s Yahoo! SportsTalk Live. On Friday, July 26 at Redwood City’s historic Fox Theatre, Escalante fights Manuel Galaviz in the co-featured bout. In the main event, IBA middleweight champion Paul “El Gallo Negro” Mendez (13-2-1, 5 KOs) of Walnut Creek defends his title against Dashon “Fly Boy” Johnson (14-11-3, 5 KOs). Pinell, Vences, and Hernandez are on the undercard, along with the pro debut of Salinas’s Darwin Price. Mendez vs. Johnson will be promoted by Don Chargin Productions and Paco Presents Boxing in association with Jorge Marron Productions.
