Buck ran over Mom with the car yesterday. Bet that title got you, huh?? Mom and I were waiting for Buck to pick us up at the front doors to Walmart right after lunch yesterday. (We had a great Mexican lunch earlier). I hopped in the car and closed my door. Mom (will be 88 in 2 months) had just lifted her left foot into the car. (weight still on right leg.). Buck thought she was in and took off forward. Mom fell to the pavement knocking her head, badly skinning up her elbow. Her right leg below the knee was run over by the car. At the exact time Mom was being run over, out of Walmart came a retired EMT! She took over, called 911 and did all the preliminary tests. I was holding up Moms run over leg to ease the pain from it. Lots of people stood around. 3 police cars, fire and rescue truck and ambulance. Mom never lost consciousness. She complained of her leg hurting, elbow hurting and head hurting. Elbow was bleeding profusely--elderly peoples skin tears easily. Walmart sent out lots of their employees and the manager. The police looked at the security tapes to determine if she had indeed been run over because she did not remember the car actually running over her leg. It did. Only because her leg was flat on the ground saved her from having it broken. Cat scan showed no brain damage, x-rays to arm and leg showed no broken or cracked bones. Lots of swelling and bruising, plus scrapes on her leg. Amazingly, after only 2 HOURS in the ER she was released to go home. Take ibuprophen and use ice packs for 2 days. NO OTHER DAMAGE!!! Needless to say, if Mom is in the car, I will be the driver!
