Buckle yourself in.. this may be a long one. Yesterday I posted a tip on airbrushing. I dont profess to be an expert (and said I was just starting out) and I also said the tip wasnt for everyone.. it was for those like me who had just taken their airbrushes out of the box. I received many comments, most telling me I was doing it wrong (no surprises there... I am learning), a couple saying you seem to be struggling with your airbrush a lot and ONE saying thank you (I cant tell you how much I appreciated that comment). Now heres the thing.. I had posted that tip because the pearl lustre literally saved me. I wouldnt have been able to hand the cake to my customer the way it was. I thought it may make a difference to someone. I was disappointed as Id planned to make tips on my page a regular thing. Something I could post as I discovered little things with each cake. I was speaking with a few cake friends about it and had a handful of them say they had similar experiences. That they had regular tips posted and all were met with negative comments. The decorators that Im talking about are very talented and due to their experience no longer post these tips. This saddened me as I know I for one would have benefitted from that shared knowledge. I say I am a self taught decorator but what I really mean is I am group taught. I have learned what I know through the incredible information that is given generously by other decorators that have made mistakes, figured out ways to fix them and perfected their craft. I would hate to think that people will stop readily giving that information. Anyway food for thought.
