Buffon: Anything can happen in Brazil Gianluigi Buffon believes he can play on until the 2018 World Cup, and claims that ‘anything can happen’ in Brazil. The goalkeeper is one of the veterans of this Italy squad at 36, but is confident that he can go on until the next tournament in Russia. “Is this my last World Cup? I sincerely hope not,” he told O Globo. “I have always said that I want to play until 40. “So if my body is still holding up, I would also like to play in the next one as well. I’m not thinking about retirement at all.” The Juventus man then commented on the Azzurri’s chances at this summer’s edition of football’s showpiece. “I don’t want to make a prediction. Anything can happen at a World Cup. It’s a competition that lasts a month and a lot depends on the condition of the teams, the climate, the ability to adapt….anything can happen. “We have a good team that has grown a lot thanks to the work of Prandelli. As I said before, it’s difficult to make predictions. “We have a very tough group, but we will go on to the pitch giving our all, thinking we can make it through. “I hope to get to the final, of course. Needless to say it would be amazing to play at the Maracana against Brazil or Argentina. “But it’s too early for that dream right now. Whatever happens, it will be a great thrill to play in Brazil – the cradle of football.”
