Bugger - after a bout of unwelcome realism, weve cancelled our trip to the glamping weekend feast I mentioned earlier. My back hasnt settled all day and the painkillers arent touching it, and I was struggling even to get stuff together to pack - so an hour or so in the car, walking round a wet and muddy field with crowds and sleeping either on an airbed or on the floor just seemed like a step too far. One slip in the dark and I could have put a disc out - which Ive done before and can leave me in pain for (literally) years. John was also concerned about having to spend the weekend looking after and protecting me when hes not up to full strength yet (and has his own mobility issues) so, for once, were doing the sensible thing and pulling out. A huge thank you shout out to Abigail Dombey who trekked over here in the pouring rain to let me have a couple of camping mats so I did have the option of sleeping on the floor should I need to. Much appreciated and Ill return them to you ASAP! Our record with cancelled holidays and trips this year is not a good one. Still, hopefully my back will recover faster as a result and I can enjoy a planned trip to Holland in August. Right, consolatory bottle of red wine might be on the agenda - strictly medicinal, obviously...
