Buhari not in support of Boko Haram - CPC by Olawale Rasheed - Abuja THE Congress for Progressive Change has strongly rejected alleged involvement of General Muhammadu Buhari with the Boko Haram sect just as it accused the presidency of being scared of the intimidating profile of the former military ruler. In a reaction to calls for the arrest of General Buhari, Pastor Ayodele Oritsejafor, President of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN ), the CPC in a statement by its National Secretary, Rotimi Fashakin said the CAN President was rehashing accusations which Dr Reuben Abati failed to substantiate when sued for libel by the General. Accusing Pastor Oritsejafor of using CAN platform to seek Buhari`s arrest on fiction and orchestrated lies, the CPC described calls for Buhari`s arrest as “utterly tendentious and unsupportable by incontrovertible facts.” Quoting recent condemnation of the Boko Haram by the General, the CPC said the former military leader had in June 2012 interview openly disowned the sect when asked to represent it in proposed dialogue with the president. “If you could recall somebody recommended me to represent Boko Haram. I told them the honest truth that I didn’t know who their leadership was and I still don’t know who their leaders are. I don’t know their philosophy because no religion advocates hurting the innocent,” the statement quoted Buhari as saying in the interview. The party quoted another December 2012 reaction of Buhari to December, 2012 bombings of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madalla and Damaturu, Yobe State, adding that Buhari said “bombing other human beings to death at any time is callous. “It becomes much more reprehensible on a Christmas day and all lovers of peace must condemn these gruesome acts and demand that the perpetrators be fished out and brought to book”, the party quoted Buhari as saying.
