Building a relationship also means going into a process of self-overlap -it is integrating our partner into our self creating a kind of cognitive interdependence and predicts closeness, love, and relationship-maintenance behaviors (Aron & Fraley, 1999). In this process, both partners pick elements from each other such as building mutual interest, picking habits that was once peculiar to his or her partner, etc. Therefore once a person enters a relationship (which is a communion of two distinct individuals), change to that person happens. But not in the degree as to the abandonment and the disappearance of ones personality and individuality. A relationship is composed of two living persons, not one individuality.
