Bulldogs Take Homecoming Win 45-35 By Bobby Summers Royse City- The Royse City Bulldogs won their second consecutive game of the year and it was a homecoming win to boot. The Bulldogs registered a 45-35 win over the South Garland Colonels and improved to 2-1 in District 12-5A play. South Garland scored first on a three yard touchdown run by Julius Sedberry. The point after was good by Andy Soto to give the Colonels a 7-0 lead with 7:41 to play in the first quarter. The Bulldogs responded going 72 yards in six plays as junior QB Court Vance scored on a a 33 yard touchdown run. The kick was good by Preston Browning to tie the score at 14 all with 5:57 to play in the first period. The Colonels then added a touchdown on a pass completion from Ashtyn Baker to Jerminic Smith, but miss the extra point to go up 13-7 at the 4:21 mark of the first period. The Bulldogs bounced back going 75 yards in 8 plays to score off of a 31 yard touchdown run by sophomore Brett Martinez. The kick was good by Browning to take a 14-13 lead with 1:43 to play in the first period and the Bulldogs would never trail again in the game. Bulldog quarterback Courtland Vance threw a 65 yard touchdown pass to Chris Sims in the second period and Martinez scored on a 3 yard touchdown run to take a 28-13 halftime lead. Royse City continued to mount up the score in the third period with a 27 yard field goal by Browning and an 18 yard touchdown pass from Vance to Aaron Landers. South Garland added a touchdown pass to Jerminic Smith in the third stanza as the Bulldogs maintained a 38-19 lead into the fourth period, The Colonels mounted a mild comeback attempt but the Bulldogs continued to put points on the board with a one yard touchdown run by Zach Maley following a 52 yard gain by the junior tailback. With the Bulldogs leading 45-27, the Colonels scored a late touchdown by Julius Sedberry for the final 45-35 score. Being crowned the 2014 Royse City homecoming queen was Delilah Martinez.
