Bullfinch & Brambles Jonathan Pointer, Oil on canvas 8 X 8 inches Today feels a lot like Autumn, mist is thick about the river by the farm and the uncut hedges are loaded with Autumn fruit. Blackberries have always been my childhood favourite fruit and I appreciate them even more now as an artist as they are such wonderful shapes and structures to paint. The spiky stem, the flowers, the variable leaves and the complex, tangled nature of the plants is intriguing and a challenge to paint. Here a Bullfinch, a bird who loves the fruit of Blackberries in Autumn and then the withered seeds over the Winter is perched amongst the habitat he so loves. Their quiet calls, a gentle seep seep are often heard about our farm.
