Bumper, Box and Balance So, it was bright and early… well - TopicsExpress

Bumper, Box and Balance So, it was bright and early… well early, not very bright. 9am to be precise. I had been given a heads up that Guy was to be a tad late. This gave Jonnie and me time to chat about the lovely weather and watch the early morning Park runners whilst getting increasingly annoyed at waiting. For future reference; a ‘tad’ is 33 minutes. So we proceeded on our journey to Box Hill. Not 2 minutes into the journey, we ran into problems. Location: downward straight from Richmond gate past Pembroke Lodge. I decided it was the perfect time to take on some drink. At the same time a car decided to brake and turn into the car park. So picture this, I’m going at speed downhill, drink in one hand, frantically grabbing the brake with the other. Safe to say, I was too late. Hit the bumper, bounced straight to the ground and rather sheepishly apologised to the driver. This had been preceded by my telling the others that all road users should be aware of the rules of the road. Ironic. So, take 2. We continued on our journey to Box Hill. Nothing interesting to report apart from the occasional spattering of rain. So, we arrived; Guy’s virgin experience of Box Hill: 2.5 miles of climb. No bother whatsoever, he reached the summit before both Jonnie and me – with ease. Obligatory twitter selfie and we were off again. In previous Box Hill rides we had just returned down the ZigZag; this time we decided to continue on the Box Hill loop. This brought us out at Pebble Hill; we only knew this as the hill which has produced more obscenities than I have ever heard come out of Sean’s mouth. Thankfully this time, we emerged at the top of this hill and enjoyed the descent. We completed Box Hill twice and then returned to base. On the return journey, we had no luck whatsoever with traffic lights; the complete opposite to the outward journey. This, however, gave Guy the opportunity to show off his wonderful balancing skills without unclipping; as you will all know – no mean feat. All in all a very successful ride.
