Buncrana 1-6 Carndonagh 0-8 Buncrana kept their unbeaten streak intact in this year’s Championship with a hard earned win over an unlucky Carndonagh, who may have felt kicked the game away in a game where they hit 11 wides. Carndonagh started the brighter. 7 minutes were played and they led by 2 points to no score, thanks to a fantastic Gerard Doherty point from out wide and Paddy Nelson who made another one of his bursts through the middle of the defence to slot over. A goal chance also fell their way, to the hands of Christy McLaughlin but he was unable to convert. Buncrana started the game slowly, but found themselves a point ahead when County Minor John Campbell rattled the net after 10 minutes. It was to be all Carndonagh for the rest of the half. Christy McLaughlin struck Carn level with a free and was again on target 10 minutes later. In this spell Carndonagh had hit 6 wides and this was to come back and haunt them as Buncrana somehow went in level, coming from the left peg of John Campbell from a free and a outside of the boot clinker just before the sides went in for half time. Carndonagh added to their wides tally again in the second half hitting two after the half time break. Garbhan Friel stretched Buncrana’s lead to 2 and left Carndonagh with a battle. Christy McLaughlin was once again on target, and it was his opposition free taker Odhran Doherty who struck minutes later to regain the two point lead. It was to be tit for tat until the final whistle, with both teams exchanging scores, unable to break both teams down fully. Christy Mc Laughlin got his third with 10 minutes to go, but once again Garbhan Friel at the end cancelled him out. There was 2 points between the teams. McLaughlin was once again on target, leaving a nervy last five for Buncrana having to hold on to a 1 point lead, but Odhran Doherty produced the goods with 3 minutes to go with a free with what sealed the game. Carndonagh pressed hard for a goal but it was not to be as Cathal O Kane blasted over for his side’s 9th point.
