Burglars steal soccer gear from Tongan team Tuesday, October 28, 2014 - 15:50 Papua New Guinea The Tonga Women’s Soccer team has lost a large amount of its soccer gear after an overnight burglary at their accommodation in the town of Kokopo in East New Britain, Papua New Guinea. According to local media reports, the team were staying at a lodge and had left their sporting gear outside to dry overnight. The gear was found missing the next morning. Stolen items included the team’s cooler, 18 Adidas shirts, two caps, six shorts and a bag of groceries. Despite the misfortune, the team’s manager Laita Tu’ivailala has told local media that the team is enjoying its stay in Kokopo. The Tongan Women’s Soccer team have been in Papua New Guinea since last week, participating in the Oceania Women’s Nations Cup. The girls were outclassed by a highly ranked New Zealand team 16 – 0 in their opening match last Saturday. However, they managed a draw (1-1) against the Cook Island’s yesterday.
