Burials of Unknown Culture Found in Peru A team from Poland has found 150 graves belonging to an unknown culture in Peru. The burials are dated at 500-800 CE. And the burials show that the northern Atacama Desert was inhabited by farmers before the Tiwanaku civilization arose. They have found massive headgear made of camelid wool, and bodies were wrapped in mats, cotton, and nets. Rare for Peru bows were found with obsidian tipped arrows along with maces. Weaving tools and jewelry, along with reeds attached to the ears of the dead which protruded upwards. They may have served to “communicate” with the dead. They also found Tiwanaku tombs dated at 800-1000 CE, the earliest Tiwanaku tombs found in this area.
