Burma or Myanmar my native land is a country in SE asia the size of Texas with a population of 50 million people. It a country rich in history going back to the 12th century. Composed of many ethnicity like America. It is rich in natural resources and the world is slowly discovering it and is now considered a tourist Mecca to see the ancient pagodas of Bagan. The British Colonial rule in Burma for 200 years and left behind a fairly good education system and colonial style architectures in buildings around the country. Rudyard Kipling wrote poetry and Frank Sinatra sang about songs on the road to Mandalay. During WWII it was the center of fierce battle between Japanese troops and the British and American troops. Merrill Marauders was the first American Division ever created to fight behind enemy lines. Believe it or not Licking County has some close connection with Burma because of Denison University which is the largest collection of cultural arts on Burma outside Burma. Denison Graduates Dr. Seagraves a missionary started a hospital and a nursing school in Nam Khan near China and became Burmas Surgeon. Here are some of the pics of an eclectic collection of the arts of Burma. The largest collection of people from Burma actually lives in Ft. Wayne Indiana. The famous Burmese is nobel peace prize winning laureate Daw Aung San Su Kyi who was under house arrest for decades and U Thant who served as Secretary General in the 60s to the U.N. like the current Ban Ki Moon.
