Burns. Catastrophic, life changing injuries that can happen to any of us. The kind of injury that scars you physically and emotionally for life. So many people in my wonderful community have been touched in different ways by Andys story. And so many have reached out to help. Prayers. Food while I was away with him. Helping with my kids. Different fundraisers to help with the burden of relocation. Fundraisers to help with the continued cost of monthly travel expense to the burn center. Andys story is filled with compassion, heartaches, prayers at his bedside while he was in a coma, prayers for successful surgeries, relocating to a different state, therapy, trial and error, and most of all the endless support. Andy is not only a burn victim but he is a burn survivor. He is brave and strong to the very core of his four year old little body. We have been so blessed and we would like to pay it forward. The Andy Rukse Fund is going to take a portion of the donations and donate to the various places that assisted us. The burn center provides transportation at no charge to burn patients. The house that is located on campus provides families with a place to stay and 2 meals a day, a place to do your laundry, and yet still be close. We would also like to supply the burn center with portable CD players, DVDs, and other useful items to those who are restricted for countless days/months to their bed. Burn victims and their families are warriors. They fight long hard battles that last a lifetime. And they can happen in the blink of an eye.
