Bus operators defy Gaya DM’s order----- Private bus operators continue to defy Gaya DM Sanjay Agrawals monthlong order banning roadside parking of buses and picking passengers on the road at different points. The DM had warned the operators against parking the buses anywhere, but at the bus stand. Asked about the continued defiance of his order by the bus operators, the DM said, in recent weeks, the officials had been busy in maintaining law and order in the festival season. But, he made it clear that the bus operators would have to comply with the directive. The DM also said a committee headed by SP (city) would ensure the compliance of the order and look into the grievances of the bus operators, if any. The committee includes the Gaya municipal commissioner, Agrawal said. The Sikaria bus stand continues to be nearly deserted while the buses are parked on the left side of the NH- 83. To make things worse, autorickshaws occupy the other flank of the road, thereby reducing the motorable area of the road to less than half its original width. The resultant traffic congestion affects traffic movement and the vehicles going toward university and Bodh Gaya take longer time to reach the destination. Private bus operators, on their part, maintain that there is no regulatory mechanism to facilitate the entry and exit of the buses as both the points are occupied by autorickshaws. Moreover, some of the operators deliberately delay the departure to court passengers and fight among themselves for more passengers. The DM has also directed the officials to rein in the autorickshaw drivers who apply brakes on speeding vehicles anywhere and everywhere, putting the lives of passengers and other road users in danger. The officials have also been directed to ensure that traffic rules are followed and overloading prevented. Overloaded autorickshaws plying on Bodh Gaya roads have been inviting adverse comments from foreign tourists.
